Shindig! 19 – November-December 2010 Out 28 October
Happy autumn dear Shindiggers!
For those of you across the equator, all I can say is…. brrrr. London is now officially cold!
As Editor-In-Chief of this very wonderful publication, I can't really let grey skies, dark nights and the impending freeze blacken my outlook, can I? No, of course not. Perhaps even more beautiful people will get turned onto the mag whilst staying indoors.
But, fear not. Issue 19 of Shindig! will bring some rays of light into your life, especially if, like us, you adore The Monkees. Monkees authorities Andrew Sandoval and Rachel Lichtman cooked up our Monkees' Head epic… 14 pages of Head, in fact. It's a brilliant tale that shows how much The Monkees understood who they were. And man, what a cool bunch of psychedelic minstrels they were! Add to that our hallowed 20 questions spot with Peter Tork and you have a mega-eeek-eek-ooh-ooh-claps-hands-together Monkees spectacular.
We also have Oz beat Gods The Easybeats, Apple records signing The Iveys (later Badfinger), beat poet/rock/nutters The Liverpool Scene and lots more besides, including a packed news section, tons of reviews and our finger on the pulse Happening, which contains The Jim Jones Revue, pretty faces, cool garb, events and much more.
Also this time around you'll learn about Kaleidoscope unearthed on French TV, the UFO-loving folk loner Jim Sullivan, forgotten London psych Zeligs Jade Hexagram, the post-Nazz exploits of Todd Rundgren, New York rockers Banchee and a heartfelt obituary of The Free Design's Chris Dedrick.
As always please get in touch with your views, news, praise, concerns and general feedback.

THE MONKEES
Rachel Lichtman and Andrew Sandoval take you inside the mysterious black box for an intimate look at the secrets and stories behind The Monkees' movie Head.
THE EASYBEATS
In the '60s many Australian rock 'n' roll stars came knocking on old Blighty's door looking for fame and fortune. Most found it too cold and unwelcoming, until THE EASYBEATS burst through in 1966 with an era-defining international hit. Were it not for a run of poor business decisions, management cock-ups, style conflicts and overwhelming bad luck, the band could have been one of the most successful Australian exports of all time. Instead, their time in London was a constant uphill struggle. JOHN TAIT looks at the evidence.
THE IVEYS
Forty years ago, Apple Records recording artists THE IVEYS changed their name to Badfinger and almost overnight became chart-topping powerpop pioneers. Stefan Granados revisits the Magic Christian Music album.
THE LIVERPOOL SCENE
A groundbreaking fusion of jazz, rock, R&B, poetry and performance, The Liverpool Scene were one of the truly unique bands to emerge from the incredible creative melting pot of the late '60s. Championed by John Peel, they toured with Led Zeppelin, played the legendary 1969 Isle Of Wight Festival and were given their own TV series. Guitarist ANDY ROBERTS talks with COLIN HALL and JEFF PENCZAK.
