Hello dear Shindiggers, new and old,
Brrr… You may recall that only last month I said “Happy Autumn”, but sitting here in London in mid-November it already feels like winter. The fog this week was very Hammer Horror and spooky! So what could be a better way to prepare for the forthcoming cold months and holing yourself up indoors than subscribing (or renewing your sub) to Shindig!? The team have been working out ways to make subscribing a far more attractive option than buying single issues. Face it, trundling off to WH Smiths or Barnes & Noble and discovering they aren’t carrying the magazine is a royal pain, especially when you a miss an issue that you had been dying to see. If you look at the sub rates and do some simples sums you’ll quickly figure out how much money you’d save. Not only will every issue land on your doormat housed in a durable plastic bag, but you’ll also have access to special “Subscribers Only” competitions, offers and more.
In 2011 as Editor-In-Chief my main aim is to significantly raise our subscriptions, and provide you our dedicated and entrusted readers with more treats and discounts and to make both your lives and ours so much better. Nice plan? I think so too.
I know it’s premature and that most of us don’t really go in for this kind of thing, but I would like to wish one and all, and Tiny Tim, a very merry Christmas. The next issue of Shindig! is due on December the 27th, so this newsletter will be about as seasonal as we get. Ho! Ho! Ho! If you want some gift ideas (and to entice your non-Shindigging friends into the fold), the three Shindig! annuals make great presents for anyone into ’60s music and style – and they look bloody marvellous too! You can order the books directly from us here.
Issue 20 will feature The Soft Machine, Merrell Fankhauser, Allied Records, The Lovin’, Euphoria, Nirvana’s Patrick Campbell-Lyons, Terry Brooks & Strange, The Holy Mackerel, The Lemon Tree, Cat Stevens/Zeus, Colorama and so much more, including our acclaimed review section and new music and style in Happening.
As always, please contact me with any news (vintage or contemporary), your thoughts on the magazine and ideas.
The next newsletter will feature a far more thorough breakdown of the coming issue.
Thanks for your continued support and kind comments and all we have done this year.
Happy Christmas.
Jon ‘Mojo’ Mills
Editor-In-Chief

Donovan

SUNSHINE SUPERMAN
A series of events surrounding the one and only Donovan take place in June next year, the most mouth-watering of which is surely a performance of Don’s groundbreaking ’66 psych-folk album Sunshine Superman in its entirety at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Don will be joined for the Friday 3rd date by The London Contemporary Orchestra with the album’s original arranger John Cameron conducting. ‘Season Of The Witch’ has never enjoyed such prestigious surroundings!
Don’s also up for induction into The Rock ’n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011 — about bloody time too.
