DAS ALDI COMBO
The Dirt On The Ground (Butterfly; Vinyl 7" EP)
This Dutch combo provide a feast for Hammond fans, presenting two covers and two originals.
'Bag of Bones' is a highly percussive number, but elsewhere the organ is king and you
gotta swing. The original title tune is my favourite, a smouldering groover
that builds well. Like jazz versions of standards, the covers are almost unrecognisable but fun.
You've certainly never heard The Cramps 'Human Fly' like this before!

LOS WALKYSONS featuring SHARON JONES
Do The Crank (Butterfly; Vinyl 7" single)
Spanish band Los Walkysons back powerful Soul vocalist Sharon Jones on this single. I don't know
The Belgianettes original version of 'Do The Crank', but in Sharon and the boys' hands it's a real
60's Soul dance floor filler that I warmed to immediately. The flip is Ike and Tina's 'I Idolize you'
which is a good take on the Ike Turner ballad, more than just a straight cover. Now have Sharon
and the band recorded a whole album of this kind of stuff?

VARIOUS ARTISTS
S. American Teenage Garage Punk, Vol.2 (Butterfly; Vinyl 7" EP)
This is a sampler for four contemporary South American bands, resplendent in a great Darren Merinuk
cover that shows a groovy Hispanic babe surrounded by four troglodytic garage punk types slashing,
hanging, poisoning and shooting themselves for her love. …Nice.
La Cosa De Venus present 'Arana', a primitive Cramps inspired rave-up in Spanish. Tren Fantasma
have an enjoyably authentic 60s light fuzz'n'farfisa pop sound, with plenty of harmonies
(also in Spanish). The Tormentos' 'Spy Games' is a driving surf instro with good musical dynamics.
The only band I have heard before, Thee Butchers Orchestra, contribute 'Stop Talking About Music'
which is less heavy and more interesting than a lot of the songs on their CD. Collect the set.
