REX THOMPSON LETS RIP WITH SOME REISSUES THAT SLIPPED UNDER THE RADAR

SLOWBONE
Tales Of A Crooked Man (Pie & Mash; LP)

Formed in late '71 outta the debris o' My Cake (no waxings), this waaay smokin' outfit included guitarist Barry Hart and bassman Jeff Peters who both shone brightly in popsyke gurus Turquoise three years before.     Mainly operating in the east side, Slowbone brawled and honed their noise in sweaty haunts like Bermondsey's Royal Fort and Hounds in East Ham, bashing the bearded and bloated and cocked and loaded longhairs into submission every time.
In 1974 and under the aegis of Pete Meaden (yeah, him), three Slowbone singles emerged (one under the alias Rough Riders) via the Rare Earth label. All bombed. Only B-side 'Tales Of A Crooked Man' figures here.
So, the bulk of side one consists of previously unreleased studio cuts recorded in the fall o' 1972. And babies, hot shit like 'The Last Goodbye', 'Flying', 'Get What Your Given' (superior pre-45 version with tuff organ break) and 'Rock 'n' Roll Star' prove that pounding progressivism and (naturally) throttle-yer-brain 'ard rock was Slowbone's specialty. Flip da disc an' hear 'em captured loud, live an' no jive (save that boring bitch 'Rat Faced Woman') at Stratford's Cart & Horses circa '73.
Oh yeah, includes insert with fuckin' funny pix and detailed Slowbone story by Pete Sarfas, a fan who was there.
