Shindig! 18 - Sept-Oct 2010 - Out Now

With FREE 21-track download and FREE Happening! magazine

Getting a cover of a magazine is always hard, but with #18’s The Birds’ cover everyone here at HQ is extremely happy. Inside, alongside a juicy interview with Birds’ singer Ali McKenzie, we offer something equally as well rounded on US garage gods The Remains. For many that would be a good enough a reason to rush to the shops, but we’ve gone beyond the gauntlet with this one, as we throw in delightfully lengthy pieces on 1979 mods The Purple Hearts, Swedish ’60s pop royalty Tages and an in-depth look at the Swinging Stevenage (!) flick Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush. Shorter, but no less informed articles, on Papa John’s prodigies Jamme, the lovely Sandy Denny, Elektra experimentalist David Stoughton, heavy weight trippers Sainte Anthony’s Fyre and even a dash of fine new music in the form of the elfin Bart Davenport and eccentrics The Smiles & Frowns. Finally, the icing on the cake has to be our brilliant 20 Questions with The Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ John B Sebastian. Phew!!!!

Hendrix

SHATTERING LIVE EXPERIENCE

Renowned photographer Gered Mankowitz unveils an exhibition of classic and unseen shots of Jimi Hendrix and his erstwhile Experience between 18th September (the 40th anniversary of Jimi’s death) and 6th November at the exciting new Snaps Galleries, 8 Piccadilly Arcade, London SW1Y 6NH.
Mankowitz met Hendrix during his formative days in London when the unknown guitarist would sit in with bands at The Scotch Of St James and hang with The Beatles, Stones and assorted ’60s rock royalty.
A highlight of the exhibition promises to be a 6ft X 4ft lenticular print that appears to move!
Prints will be for sale and there’s a private viewing on Thursday 16th September at 6pm so get blagging!
