| Tim Forster ambled onstage to regale us with the genesis of his love affair with The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band that led to his exhaustive and exclusive three-part biography for Shindig!
Then The Higher State took to the stage. Looking suitably suave and brandishing an enviable artillery of vintage Gibson, Gretsch, Rickenbacker and Fender guitars, they proceeded to stun the assembled with five perfectly-executed WCPAEB songs including a heart-stopping ‘I Won’t Hurt You’, a life-affirming ‘Transparent Day’ and an extended ‘Smell Of Incense’ that almost topped the original. The band then ran through another half hour of songs mixing originals like ‘And In Time’ and covers including a jaw-dropping ‘7 And 7 Is’ before gracefully exiting. Thanks boys, you did us proud.
