A Bunny Wee Festival
Doune the Rabbit Hole Music Festival is only officially a year old though it has been going on in secret for a wee while. It is committed to revealing a lot of good and interesting artists from many different genres, not just music. It plays host to film-makers, comedians, magicians, lecturers, poets and sculptors but most of all musicians to give the place an incredible and truly festive feel. The event is held in an amazing walled garden outside Doune Castle, near Dunblane and guests camp at the festival by the river. Acts booked so far include, The Vaselines, Arthur Brown (has agreed to play if his recovery allows him to), Mike Heron, The Trembling Bells, The Hidden Masters, Broadcast 2000, Colorama, James Yorkston, Houdini Dax, Alasdair Roberts, The Method, Remember Remember and many more.
Glasgow event producers, Eyes Wide Open, are curating an evening of psych/garage. Doune the Rabbit Hole is a not-for-profit festival - all the money generated from its events goes into funding outreach programmes and the setting up of small arts and music schools around Scotland to give young and disadvantaged people the chance to learn an instrument, write, paint or just be generally creative. www.dounetherabbithole.co.uk
Back From The Shadows
Currently featured in Shindig! Quarterly No.1 with his fab new band The Maharajas, wild Swede Jens Lindsberg returns with a newly reconstituted version of his '80s garage teen punk band The Crimson Shadows with a brand new 45 on Screaming Apple. The disc features two old Shadows songs, which have now been perfected. 'Nightmares' was originally included on a number of comps back in the day but was marred by a cheesy harmonica solo; the new version fixes this with added fuzz. Flip, 'It's Too Late' only ever got to a 1986 rehearsal tape stage, so here it is exactly how it should have sounded 25 years ago.
Lovers of the finest Swedish '80s garage-punk have a lot to look forward to. www.screaming-apple-records.de
Pop in to see Peter Blake
RedHouse Originals in Harrogate are hosting a dedicated solo exhibition by the "Godfather of Pop Art" Sir Peter Blake.
Blake has designed some of the most iconic and enduring album covers of all time for artists including The Beatles, The Who, Paul Weller, Ian Dury, Eric Clapton, Brian Wilson, Oasis, Band Aid and many more.
Collectors are invited to view and purchase works during the exhibition, including some of the rarest and most sought after original and limited edition prints Blake has produced. Highlights include the artist's portraits of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and his seminal artwork for The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
This exhibition will also feature the unveiling of Blake's recent portrait of Ian Stewart; the legendary keyboardist and co-founder of The Rolling Stones. The artist has designed the artwork for "Boogie For Stu"; a tribute album to Stewart featuring contributions from all four current Stones, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts, as well as former bassist Bill Wyman.
The artwork will be available to pre-order as a limited edition silkscreen print with proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation's 'Mending Broken Hearts' campaign.

Another Chance
Reformed, but unrepentant, the band Ronnie Lane formed when he left the Faces, Slim Chance, is treading the boards again. Original members Steve Simpson, Charlie Hart, Steve Bingham, Alun Davies and Colin Davey are playing Ronnie's songs in the spirit of the band's previous incarnations.
Films have been made, celebration concerts staged, articles written, covers recorded... now for the rebirth of the band! Recent live reviews have been frothing at the mouth with praise for their shows, our own Darius Drewe commenting 'Slim Chance not only do justice to the Lane legend but look like they finally have a future in their own right'. You can see them this month at the Tivoli Theatre in Dorset (March 11th), The Boston Arms Music Room in London (25th), and the Hailsham Pavilion on the 26th.

Mods in Berks
The wonderfully titled Reading Steady Go! exhibition explores the explosion of youth culture in the 1960s and its legacy in today's music and fashion.
In the early 1960s Reading emerged from the rationing and austerity of the post war years. A generation of 'Baby Boomers' enjoyed increased spending power, more freedom and leisure time. The term 'teenager' was used for the first time and alongside the new buildings that rose up in Reading, various youth cultures emerged. Young people began to define their identify through allegiance to different styles such as Teddy Boy, Rockabilly, Beatnik and Mod.
The town's Mods soaked up the influences and latest trends from London. They listened to black American R & B artists, wore smooth cropped hairstyles, tailored jackets and neat Italian rounded-collar shirts. The exhibition intends to be an insight into the real Mod world. It goes beyond the popular myths to show their passion for music, fashion and being young.
9 April - 9 October 2011. Reading Museum & Town Hall, Reading, RG1 1QH
